Shark Scale Overview

Shark Scale is an attack blade that strikes from underneath. Its two big contact points sit low and slope upward, so it scoops under opponents to snipe the ratchet, force a burst, or tip them off balance. It also holds real stamina, which is why it can win a match several different ways and why it took over the meta after its release.

Strengths

  • + Attacks from below for ratchet snipes, bursts, and scoop up knockouts
  • + Keeps enough stamina to win by spin finish, which is rare for an attacker
  • + Performs on almost any ratchet and bit, so it is forgiving to build around
  • + Strong into the other big attack blades, which struggle to get clean contact on it

Weaknesses

  • High recoil when it gets hit squarely, which can throw it out of the ring
  • Uneven weight around the blade makes it easy to destabilize into a scrape
  • Attack builds tend to lose the long game against Wizard Rod 1-60H
  • Very launch dependent, so it punishes sloppy technique

1-70LR is by far its most used tournament build, with 3-60LR and 1-60LR close behind and 1-60R if you prefer plain Rush. Launch those hard and aim low at the opponent's ratchet. Shark Scale also plays as a stamina blade, and 9-60FB is now its second most used build: it sits near the middle, lets opponents run into the upward slopes, and outspins them. Launch that one softer, around three quarters power, because less energy in the collision means less chance of being thrown out. One quirk worth knowing is that a broken in Shark Scale recoils less than a fresh one, so many players run a new copy on attack builds first and move it to the stamina build once it has some battles on it. In a 3v3 deck it can fill either the attack slot or the stamina slot.
